Getting Started: Your First Coastal Ride

Follow these steps to plan and enjoy your first cycling adventure along Latvia's Baltic coast safely and comfortably.

1

Choose Your Route Based on Fitness Level

Start with the Riga-Jūrmala path if you're new to cycling. It's flat, well-maintained, and has plenty of rest areas. If you're already active, explore the longer Vidzeme seaside routes that stretch further north with beautiful coastal views.

2

Rent or Prepare Your Bike

Consider an e-bike rental for your first ride — it takes physical strain out of the equation. If you're using your own bike, get it serviced first. Make sure the seat height is right, brakes work smoothly, and tires have good tread. A comfortable bike makes all the difference.

3

Plan Your Timing and Pack Smart

Ride in the morning or late afternoon to avoid midday heat. Bring water, sunscreen, a light snack, and your phone. Wear comfortable, bright clothing so you're visible. Start with a short distance — maybe 10-15km — and build from there. There's no rush.
